BostInno: VC Funding Update: Over 58 Boston Startups Raised More than $624M in October

Venture capitalists loosened their purse strings as we near the end of the decade, pouring over $624 million into 58 Boston-area startups.

Some notable funding rounds included Cambridge-based epigenetics company Constellation Pharmaceuticals’ $65 million in equity, Watertown-based microbiome company Arranta Bio’s $82 million funding round and Cambridge-based hematology company Disc Medicine’s $50 million Series A.

Investors raised a significant sum of money in October as well. Sverica Capital Management, a growth-oriented, lower-middle-market private equity firm, closed its fifth private equity fund, Sverica Capital Partners V, at $450 million. Clean Energy Ventures closed its first fund at $110 million, which it will use to create a portfolio of 20 to 25 energy startups.

Catalyst Health Ventures raised $60.5 million for its fourth fund, which will target tech solutions in the health care and life science industries. And Seaport District biotechnology startup Ginkgo Bioworks raised a $350 million fund to more easily invest in spinout ventures that use its bioengineering technology in a variety of industries that are just starting to use cutting-edge biology.

Agtech

Somerville-based agtech company Kula Bio raised $5.1 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Biotech

Boston-based bioengineering company EnBiotix raised $3.1 million in equity in a $26 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

iVexSol, a Boston-based viral vector manufacturing company, raised $2 million in new convertible debt funding led by Casdin Capital and BioLife Solutions.

Cambridge-based biotech company Celsius Therapeutics raised $34 million in equity in a $65 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Cambridge-based epigenetics company Constellation Pharmaceuticals raised $65 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based ImmunoMolecular Therapeutics, a clinical-stage company developing personalized therapies for autoimmune disease, raised $10 million in Series A financing co-led by the JDRF T1D Fund and Morningside Ventures, with participation from the Colorado University Healthcare Innovation Fund.

Cambridge-based oncology startup Clear Creek Bio raised $1 million in equity in a $1.6 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Waltham-based precision medicine company Scipher Medicine raised $5 million in incremental cash, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based Arcuate Therapeutics raised $5 million in equity in a $10 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Lexington-based Cyteir Therapeutics, which is developing next-generation synthetic lethal therapies for cancer, closed an additional $40.2 million in Series B financing, for a total of $75.2 million in this round.

Cambridge-based biotech Vizgen raised $14 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Brookline-based Crimson BioPharm raised $1 million in debt, according to an SEC filing.

Cambridge-based oncology startup Elicio Therapeutics raised $7 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Blueprint Medicines will receive $25 million to collaborate with French drugmaker Ipsen on a potential treatment it developed for an ultra-rare genetic disease.

Cambridge-based biotech company ReadCoor raised $26.8 million in equity in a $30.1 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

West Newbury-based TellBio raised $1.5 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based Eliem Therapeutics raised an additional $4.1 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Marblehead-based Allievex Corporation, a clinical-stage biotechnology company founded by Pappas Capital, completed a Series A financing of an undisclosed amount co-led by Novo Holdings and Pappas Capital.

Concord-based pharma company Cristcot raised an additional $10.7 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Watertown-based microbiome company Arranta Bio closed an $82 million funding round and announced a strategic partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Disc Medicine, a Cambridge-based hematology company, completed a $50 million Series A round led by Novo Holdings A/S along with Access Biotechnology and founding investor Atlas Venture.

Beverly-based LexaGene closed its previously announced offering of units for aggregate gross proceeds of CAD $6.64 million, about USD $5 million.

Waltham-based cancer and stem cell therapeutics company Minerva Biotechnologies raised $1.5 million in equity in a $12 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Blockchain

Oneiro, a provider of high-performance blockchain solutions, secured an investment of $5 million from COSIMO Ventures. This is the second investment round by COSIMO, following a seed round of $3 million in February 2018, bringing the total venture capital investment to date to $8 million. Cleantech/Greentech

Titan Advanced Energy Solutions, a Boston-based provider of ultrasound-based battery management solutions, raised $10 million in Series A financing co-led by Schneider Electric Ventures and Energy Innovation Capital with participation from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

Watertown-based water treatment supplier Cambrian Innovation raised $3 million in equity and debt, according to an SEC filing.

Somerville-based Sistine Solar, a provider of solar panels, raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Energy Foundry, MassCEC and Thin Line Capital. Read our profile of the company from 2014 here.

Bedford-based Boston Materials raised $1.5 million in debt in a $2.1 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Fashion

Voxel8 raised an undisclosed amount of Series B funding. Led by DSM Venturing, the venture investment arm of DSM, the round includes participation from HP Tech Ventures and existing investors Braemar Energy Ventures and ARCH Venture Partners.

Fintech

Jassby, a Waltham-based provider of a mobile payments system for families, raised $1.2M in debt in a $3 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Hardware

Wilmington-based 3D scanning system developer Lantos Technologies raised $5.2 million in equity in a $10M funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Tewksbury-based open virtualized RAN technology company Altiostar Networks raised $4 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Health Care

Boston-based healthtech company Buoy Health raised $5 million in incremental cash, according to an SEC filing.

Marlborough-based Persivia, an AI-driven value-based care solution provider, closed a $15 million financing from Petrichor Healthcare Capital Management, completing its Series C round to support an array of growth initiatives.

Belmont-based healthtech company 4D Path raised $1.4 million in equity in a $3 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Cambridge-based medical device and data analytics firm REBIScan raised $1.2 million in incremental cash, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based beam, a wellness brand that sells a line of CBD products, raised a $5 million seed round led by Obvious Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

Lexington-based medtech company New Health Sciences raised $4.4 million in equity in a $14.5 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based Foodome raised $5 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Robotics

Boston-based Realtime Robotics raised $11.7 million in Series A funding led by SPARX Asset Management with participation from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Hyundai Motor Company and OMRON Ventures, alongside existing investors Toyota AI Ventures, Scrum Ventures and the Duke Angel Network.

Software

Boston-based software company OnCorps raised $2.3 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Cambridge-based marine docking management software company Wanderlust Group raised $1.1 million in debt in a $6 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Needham-based SaaS startup Meshmark raised $7.5 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Southborough-based publishing software provider GTxcel raised $3.3 million in equity and debt in an $8.7 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based Building Engines, a building operations software platform for commercial real estate owners, operators and occupants, raised $12.7 million led by existing investor Wavecrest Growth Partners with participation from River Cities Capital Funds, MassMutual Ventures and Camber Creek Ventures.

Mable, a Boston-based wholesale commerce platform for small businesses in the grocery, convenience, artisanal and health food market spaces, raised $3.1 million in seed funding led by Venrock, Accomplice and Founder Collective with participation from angel investors including Laurent Amouyal, co-founder of Shopkeep David Olk and James McCann.

Auburndale-based A/B testing and optimization provider SiteSpect raised $1 million in equity and debt, according to an SEC filing.

Fairmarkit, a tail spend management platform that delivers automation and cost savings for enterprise companies, raised an $11 million Series A round led by Insight Partners.

Bedford-based VoltDB, an enterprise-grade data platform, raised $10 million in Series C funding to meet the demand for 5G data requirements.

Boston-based Procursys raised $2 million in equity in a $2.5 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Boston cloud-based manufacturing platform provider Paperless Parts raised $1 million in debt in a $3 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Guidepost Growth Equity invested $31 million in Green Rabbit, a Braintree-based e-commerce cold chain logistics provider.

Boston-based Trade Hounds, developer of an app for construction workers, raised $5 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Grax, a Boston-based provider of a data value platform, raised $12.8 million in Series A financing from Volition Capital.

Activ Surgical, a Boston-based digital intelligence company focused on improving surgical efficiency, accuracy, patient outcomes and accessibility, closed an additional $11 million in Series A funding. The round was led by DNS Capital, with participation from GreatPoint Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, SONY Innovation Fund, Rising Tide Financial, WS Investment Company and Mintz.

Cambridge-based NeighborSchools, which we’ve previously described as Airbnb for early child care, raised $3.5 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.

Boston-based Win Win Games Corp. raised $1.5 million in a $2.5 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.

Waltham-based Evolv Technologies raised $24.1 million in equity in a $30 million funding round, according to an SEC filing.
